Senator Robach Announces State Grant For Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society

Senator Robach is proud to announce a State grant of $5,500 to assist the Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society.

The lighthouse is a historical treasure and landmark for the Rochester community, especially those living in Charlotte. It is located on the Seaway Trail and also listed on the New York State Register and National Register of Historic Places. According to the Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society, the Keepers House (which this funding will help restore) was originally built in 1822 but replaced in 1863. The original two-room stone keeper’s house was replaced with a two story brick residence. The grant will be used for renovations and improvements to the Keepers House in conformance with the colors in the early 1900s.

"I was happy to work with Fred Amato and those at the Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society to provide funding for these important improvements" stated Senator Robach. "As a Charlotte native, I make it a priority to fund projects, like this, that will continue to preserve Charlotte’s unique history. I encourage all City residents to visit the lighthouse with their children and families to take in a piece of Rochester’s past."

The lighthouse is open mid-May through mid-October. Free admission is provided Saturday and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm. For other times, special tours and pricing call for an appointment (585) 621-6179.
