Fitness For Life Expo Shaping Up At Aviator Sports
BROOKLYN, October 9, 2007 – The Fitness for Life Expo is shaping up for an all-day workout Thursday, October 11 at Aviator Sports & Recreation.
Seniors 55 and over will benefit from a unique total mind and body fitness experience beginning at 9 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. Free classes include yoga, arthritis exercise, weight training, slimnastics, and dance.
The Fitness for Life Expo is in conjunction with an active Seniors in Shape program that revolves around sessions three days each week through early December. The Expo is expected to welcome more than 30 exhibitors from health care, financial companies and government agencies who will be on site to meet with all participants.
This marks this year’s second Fitness for Life Expo as Seniors in Shape initiated in February at the Aviator Sports complex located at historic Floyd Bennett Field.
``The Seniors in Shape Program is about getting healthy in mind and body,’’ says program organizer Susan Lavin. `` Living an active lifestyle is vital to maintaining good health and this program is a great way to get there.
``The seniors come every week because they love getting out and feeling good about themselves, both emotionally and physically. They enjoy being with other adults that they can interact with instead of staying home and getting depressed.’’
Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, State Senator Marty Golden and Assemblymembers Janele Hyer-Spencer and Audrey Pfeffer are scheduled to be on hand for the Fitness for Life Expo.
State Senator Marty Golden stated, "As the Chairman of the New York State Senate Aging Committee, and as one who strongly believes in creating the best of opportunities for seniors to age with independence, dignity and choice, I am excited by the second Fitness for Life Expo. We must continue to promote an active and healthy lifestyle for our senior citizens, for it is essential to them living a longer, happier, and healthier life. May many seniors learn from this event and may they incorporate the lessons learned into their everyday life. It is when they do that, that our event has truly been a success!’’
Both the Fitness for Life Expo and Seniors in Shape classes are open to seniors and no pre-registration required. For the upcoming expo, seniors should wear sneakers and bring 3-pound hand weights for strength and tone class. Refreshments are free and there will be giveaways and raffles.
