Golden Leads Senate Passage Of Legislation To Officially Remember September 11th In New York
Albany- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), a former New York City Police Officer, today is announcing that the New York State Senate has voted to approve S. 456, legislation that designates the commemoration of the month of September as firefighter, police officer and emergency medical technician appreciation month in New York State.
The commemoration of a month in New York State sets aside a particular month in recognition and in special honor of a person, persons, group ideal or goal. The Governor issues a formal proclamation each calendar year that is to be adopted by both the Senate and the Assembly to officially designate the month.
Senator Marty Golden stated, "I commend my colleagues in the New York State Senate for today voting to adopt a significant piece of legislation that sends a message to all firefighters, police officers and emergency medical technicians that what they did on and immediately after September 11, 2001, for the good of New York and America, will never be forgotten. The bravery and courage exhibited by so many during that time in our history is a spirit of heroism that must be remembered forever, so to inspire future generations, so to pay tribute to the lives of those lost trying to rescue and save."
Golden continued, "Every year as we approach September 11th, our hearts and minds are filled with emotions and images of loss and heroism. How important would it be for the families of all those firefighters, for the police officers and emergency medical technicians, who perished that fateful morning, to see New York has not and will never forget. And for those who survived, they too need to know that all they did will never be forgotten by any New Yorker. I am hopeful that the State Assembly will take action on this bill and that September, 2007, will be known as firefighter, police officer and emergency medical technician appreciation month here in New York."
The bill was sent to the Assembly.
