Golden Pays Tribute To Fallen Police Officers At Annual Remembrance Ceremony

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), a former New York City Police Officer, recently attended the annual Remembrance Ceremony at the Police Officers Memorial, located at the Empire State Plaza in Albany, in honor of the memory and sacrifice of police officers from around New York State who have been slain in the line of duty.

The names of more of 1,115 officers are engraved on the Memorial wall. Among them are the names of the 577 officers from the New York City Police Department. The remaining 538 officers are from 133 police agencies from around New York State. Names are placed randomly on the wall and without rank. The Memorial wall is polished black granite and divided into ten panels.

Among the names remembered at this Memorial is the name of Police Officer Kevin Lee who suffered a fatal heart attack following a foot pursuit with three suspects on January 27, 2006. Officer Lee had served as New York City Police Officer for ten years and additionally, had served as an Auxiliary Officer for five years. Police Officer Kevin Lee’s parents are active members of the Parent Teacher Association at Dyker Height’s Public School 127 where is son, who survives him, attends school.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "As a former New York City Police Officer, it was truly humbling to attend the memorial service which paid tribute to the fallen members of the police departments of cities, towns and villages from across New York State, including the N.Y.P.D. It is our responsibility to never forget the lives of those lost in the line of duty who have made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can live in a safe and orderly society. May we keep those who we lost and their families in our thoughts and prayers always, and may their courage inspire in all of us a sense of service, pride and patriotism."
