Golden Secures Better Maintenance For Train Station

Martin J. Golden

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today announced that in response to his request, the New York City Transit Authority will better maintain and provide greater upkeep for the 95th Street "R" train station at 4th Avenue.

A couple of weeks ago, Senator Golden wrote to the New York City Transit Authority upon receipt of a complaint related to the cleanliness of the 95th Street station. Golden wrote of the deplorable conditions, expressing his concern that the subway cars were filthy. Newspapers, paper cups, food, bottles, sticky floors and roaches were among the unpleasant conditions which have been greeting commuters on their way to and from work at this station.

In response to the complaint, the Transit Authority’s Department of Subways has instructed management responsible for the cleaners at the 95th Street terminal to visit the terminal at least twice a week to monitor the regular, 24/7 cleaning operation, and make any necessary adjustments that may be more effective.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "A clean commute is desired by all and in bringing this lack of one to my attention, for the strap hangers who use the 95th Street station, we will insure just that. As we have been effected by fare increases in recent years, we have come to expect a higher quality of services. No one should have to ride on a dirty subway car, and I would encourage other residents who use different stations to contact my office to report additional concerns."

Golden continued, "I thank the New York City Transit Authority for their response which I believe will effectively address these concerns. I remain committed to a proper subway environment for all commuters, one that is safe and clean, and know that we have made extraordinary progress on our subway system to make it user friendly, and we will continue to head in that right direction."

To report concerns and the quality of subway cars and stations, please contact Senator Golden’s office at (718) 238-6044 or (718) 627-3659 or via e-mail at golden@senate.state.ny.us The New York City Department of Subways’ Division of Service Delivery also accepts complaints at (718) 243-3222 or write to the Divison of Service Delivery, Complaints and Correspondence, 130 Livingston Street, Room 6088B, Brooklyn, New York 11201.
