New York State Corrections Department Recruiting New Officers

Brooklyn-State Senator Martin J. Golden (22nd District) has announced today that the New York State Department of Correctional Services is looking for willing individuals that would like to pursue a career in law enforcement. Accordingly, under the auspices of the New York State Department of Civil Service, a new examination will be held on April 14, 2007. The filing deadline for this examination is February 26, 2007.

A Correction Officer Trainee's starting salary is currently $34,329 per year. After successful completion of the one-year Correction Officer traineeship, which ends one year after the employee's date of initial appointment to the Department's Training Academy, the salary increases to $41,348 per year.

Senator Golden stated, "As a former New York City Police officer, I have a great respect for the men and women of law enforcement. Individuals who chose this career are holding themselves to the highest level of citizenship in protecting the citizens, and enforcing the laws, of our great city and state. I encourage anyone with a strong sense of community citizenship and heart to apply and help make our great city and state even better in the future.

Senator Golden has made these application forms available to interested New Yorkers at his district office located at 7403 Fifth Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. The examination announcement and application forms are available and can be downloaded from the NYS Department of Correctional Services website at www.docs.state.ny.us. The exam packets are also available at all Department of Labor offices and all New York State correctional facilities.
