Nys Senator Martin Golden Kicks Off Home Health Care Month With Vnr Home Care Services

Martin J. Golden

Brooklyn – October, 2007 – In recognition of Home Health Care Month (November) New York State Senator Martin Golden, Chair of the Senate Aging Committee, recently accompanied VNR Home Care Services (VNR) on a home visit in Brooklyn.

Joined by Maxine Hochhauser CEO of VNR and Beatrice Consolo, VNR Field Supervisor, Senator Golden visited the home of Mrs. Daphne Katsomalaris, a VNR patient since 1979.

Ms. Hochhauser said, “The quality and consistent care Mrs. Katsomalaris receives from her VNR nurses and the help she receives from her home health aides have enabled her to stay in her home and avoid placement in a nursing home.”

Senator Golden noted, “The medical care provided by the compassionate professionals at VNR demonstrates how home care can give people a much better quality of life -- allowing seniors to age in place, keeping them with their families in the community. Allowing patients to remain at home instead of in institutions has countless benefits including providing significant savings to the health care system.”

Home Health Care Month recognizes the dedicated and committed individuals and organizations that provide their patients and families with the support they need to manage chronic illnesses, receive needed therapies and general health assistance while remaining at home.

VNR is New York State’s third-largest and oldest home care agency, serving 15,000 people in New York City’s five boroughs and Westchester County and providing 1.5 million hours annually of comprehensive home care. The organization serves the ill and disabled, from premature infants to the elderly. To learn more about VNR and its services, visit www.vnrhcs.org.
