Security Of Local Pipeline And Emergency Response Tops Agenda For Upcoming State Senate Hearing At Brooklyn's Fort Hamilton

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today announced that the Homeland Security, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee of the New York State Senate, in which he is a member, will be hosting an important public hearing next week in Brooklyn.

The committee intends to address several homeland security issues including port security, gas and fuel pipeline security including the one connected at Shore Road, communications, evacuation routes, response times, protocols to emergencies that have an economic impact to business and intergovernmental coordination.

The hearing will feature testimony, as well as a question and answer session, with representatives of the City of New York, local CERT Teams, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the American Red Cross and the State Department of Homeland Security among others. The hearing will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 in the Jackson Room of the Fort Hamilton Army Base’s community club.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "I look forward to a very important and productive hearing on homeland security which will focus on our neighborhood, the City and the State of New York. Specifically, we need to educate the community on the gas pipeline which runs through Shore Road and address the concerns related to the vulernability of the pipeline. Bringing together leaders in emergency response is an important task that helps to make us ready for the future, and by being more prepared, that makes us safer and stronger."
