Senator Golden Announces Train Noise And Lights No Longer Disturbing Residents

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today is announcing that train noise and lights, of the B train subway cars staged on East 15th Street between Gravesend Neck Road and Avenue Z, will no longer disturb Brooklyn residents.

Senator Marty Golden received numerous complaints from local residents in regard to the overnight and weekend staging of these trains at this location. The subway cars were recently relocated to the tracks between Neck Road and the Sheepshead Bay stations, along the Brighton line, in order to provide more efficient subway service along this corridor during the morning rush hour period.

Residents were complaining of the disturbance caused by the noise and lights, impacting their quality of life, making it difficult for some to keep their windows open and for some to sleep. The relocation of the subway car storage is due to the rehabilitation of the project currently taking place at the Ocean Parkway Viaduct.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "In response to the complaints brought to the attention of the New York City Transit Authority regarding this problem, NYC Transit operators, who store trains in this area, have been directed to turn off the air brake compressors, air-conditioning equipment and car body lights on all trains. Working together with the Transit Authority, we have eradicated a problem which was disturbing Brooklyn residents."

Senator Golden continued, "If problems continue to persist at this site, or in a similar manner elsewhere, I urge residents to contact my office and it will be reported immediately to the Transit Authority so that it can be corrected. Residents should not have to face the presence of noise and lights from subway cars in their homes."

The rehabilitation project currently taking place at the Ocean Parkway Viaduct is currently scheduled to be completed by January 2008.
