Statement From Senator Marty Golden

The Brooklyn jury that convicted Ronell Wilson for murdering two New York City Police Officers last month on two counts of murder, along with robbery, carjacking and firearms charges made an appropriate decision today by imposing the death penalty.

As the state Senate sponsor of legislation (S.319) to reinstate the death penalty for the intentional murder of a police officer, I am working towards a tough law that is Constitutional and represents an application of justice commensurate with the crime.

It is time to rewrite New York State statute to provide greater protections to law enforcement and empower juries to impose a sentence of death.
