Nozzolio Honors Geneva High School State Football Champs In Albany
Albany—State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio honored members of the Geneva Panthers football team for their victory in the 2006 Class B State Championship in a visit to the State Capitol today. Senator Nozzolio, along with Assemblyman Brian Kolb, held a private luncheon for the team, who also observed the State Senate during its legislative session and toured the State Capitol.
"The Geneva Panthers have proven that they are the best football team in New York State by winning the Class B State Championship game,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The entire team, along with head coach Dave Whitcomb and the assistant coaches are to be commended for the leadership, hard work, perseverance and commitment they have demonstrated in reaching this significant goal. These players are truly a credit to the Geneva community."
Senator Nozzolio attended the Geneva High School football rally in December to honor the Panthers football team for their victory over the Albany Academy Cadets in the championship game. The team and their coaches were joined in Albany by School Superintendent Robert Young Jr.
The guests attended a luncheon in their honor hosted by Senator Nozzolio and Assemblyman Kolb. The students also attended the State Senate's legislative session, where a special resolution was adopted honoring their victory in the State championship.
Geneva High Head Football Coach Dave Whitcomb said, "We are very appreciative of Senator Nozzolio’s efforts to honor our team and we thank him for what was a great day for us all. This past season was truly a great experience for the players, their families and the Geneva community and our visit to Albany has added to the excitement."
Assemblyman Brian Kolb said, “I am proud to join the people of Geneva in congratulating the players and coaches of the Panthers football team for winning the Class B State Football Championship. Their teamwork, fortitude and commitment to the sport came together as a big win for Geneva. These young men should be applauded as they have shown us what hard work and determination can accomplish.”
Geneva Central School District Superintendent Robert Young Jr. said, “These outstanding young men’s accomplishment both on the field and in the classroom is something they will carry in their hearts and minds for the rest of their lives. What they have learned through this experience I hope will be a powerful influence in their personal lives and careers in the years ahead. The pride each and every one of the members of our community has for Geneva was reflected and reinforced through this team’s achievements.”
"It is truly a pleasure for me to help honor the achievements of my constituents, particularly those of our youth. The Geneva football team has made its family, friends, community and State proud and I am pleased to pay tribute to the team's remarkable accomplishments," Nozzolio concluded.
