Nozzolio Secures State Funding For Institute For Innovation And Entrepreneurship At Cayuga Community College

Auburn – Continuing his commitment to creating jobs and promoting career growth in the Central Finger Lakes Region, New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio today announced that he has secured $56,000 in state funding to help establish the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Cayuga Community College. The establishment of the Institute is a key component of the economic development report, A Call to Action: A Blueprint for our Region’s Future, that was recently released by a Focus group in Cayuga County.

“The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship will give students the opportunity to receive hands-on training and practical experience for starting up their own business,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Successful small businesses are critical for the economic growth of our area and I am pleased to support such a worthwhile investment for our young entrepreneurs and the future of the Central Finger Lakes region.”

Cayuga Community College (CCC) is developing the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship to nurture budding entrepreneurs in the Finger Lakes region. The Institute will be made up of three Centers: The Center for Entrepreneurial Initiatives, The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies, and The Center for Workforce and Community Development.

Dr. Philip Gover, President of Cayuga Community College, said, “I would like to sincerely thank Senator Nozzolio for his continued commitment to CCC and for his financial support of the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship. This announcement will greatly benefit the college community and all of the budding entrepreneurs in the area.”

Tom Paczkowski, Business Professor and Project Coordinator for the Institute, said, “Senator Nozzolio’s investment in this initiative is just the latest in his long history of support to the community. The Senator’s commitment to our community is unparalleled and he has once again demonstrated his desire and ability to work on behalf of his constituents.”

“I believe that A Call to Action: A Blueprint for our Region’s Future will serve as a catalyst for the revitalization of Auburn and Cayuga County. President Philip Gover, the college trustees, and the college community stand ready to work as a willing partner with the Focus Group to realize the promise that was articulated in their Blueprint,” continued Paczkowski.

The Center for Entrepreneurial Initiatives will provide a clearinghouse for information, support services and business expertise for entrepreneurs. Those at the Institute will receive help on developing business plans and neighborhood ventures would help promote the revitalization of economically challenged areas in the region.

The Center for Entrepreneurial Studies will provide students with courses and entrepreneurial opportunities, including a student incubator system for testing and promoting new ventures in the marketplace. Internships and work-study opportunities will be available.The Center for Workforce and Community Development will develop training for existing and emerging organizations with the use of workshops and seminars.

“Once established, the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Cayuga Community College, will be a major asset for our region and lead to the creation of successful careers for our young people,” Senator Nozzolio concluded.
