Senator Nozzolio Announces Local Residents Will Be Able To Acquire Fishing Licenses At Sodus Point

Sodus Point—State Senator Michael Nozzolio today announced that James Abel, owner of the Sodus Point Lodge on Greig Street, has been approved by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) as a Fishing License Issuing Agent. The announcement will allow Sodus Point fisherman to acquire fishing licenses, which have been unavailable at Sodus Point since the closing of Carey’s Cove Marina.

Senator Nozzolio contacted the regional DEC office after being notified that local charter boat operators were suffering because their customers were unable to obtain a fishing license at Sodus Point. In response to Senator Nozzolio’s efforts, the DEC agreed to approve the Sodus Point Lodge as a License Issuing Agent.

“It was a pleasure to work on the behalf of area fishing enthusiasts and to successfully get approval for a new fishing licensing agent at Sodus Point,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Area fisherman will now be able to get their licenses locally at Sodus Point, one of the busiest fishing ports along the southern shore of Lake Ontario.”

James Abel, owner of the Sodus Point Lodge, said, “I am extremely happy that our concerns were heard by the Department of Environmental Conservation. On behalf of all of the fishing enthusiasts in our area, I would like to thank Senator Nozzolio for his help in gaining approval from the State.”

The Sodus Point Lodge is located at 8528 Greig Street in Sodus Point.
