Huntley Urges Sept. 11 Workers To Register Before Deadline

JAMAICA - State Sen. Shirley L. Huntley (D-Jamaica) is urging workers and volunteers who helped with the recovery or clean-up efforts on or after Sept. 11, 2001 to register with the New York Workers' Compensation board by its Aug. 14 deadline. After recently learning that only 4,000 of the 100,00 eligible individuals to receive Workers' Compensation had filed a claim, Huntley said that if 9/11 workers or volunteers do not register, then "they will never be able to file a 9/11-related claim." If a claim is approved, Workers' Compensation will pay 100 percent of all medical expenses for work-related illnesses including mental illness. It will also pay two-thirds of an average weekly wage up to $400 a week if the individual can not work due to a 9/11-related injury.
