Stephen M. Saland

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today announced that three local students have won statewide recognition for environmental awareness through the State Senate’s 16th Annual I*MA*GREEN*NATION competition.

"Hundreds of students from across the State competed and our local winners were judged to be among the best for their imaginative ideas and displays," said Senator Saland. "These outstanding young people have shown a remarkable awareness and concern for the environmental challenges facing our State and I know the entire community takes pride in their accomplishment."

In this statewide competition, students in grades one through eight presented entries which offered ideas and possible solutions to the problem of solid waste reduction and encouraging recycling. Entries were judged for imagination, subject matter and creativity.

Local winners attend Kinry Road Elementary School in Poughkeepsie and include: Anthony Silverence, John Cenname and Larissa Eliason. "It was a pleasure to meet the winners as well as students from Devereau Foundation who also submitted entries," Saland added. "I commend them for their hard work and imaginative displays."

A reception and awards ceremony for the winners was held at the State Capitol on Tuesday May 15 and the winning entries were on public display.
