Senator Steve Saland And Assemblyman Marc Molinaro Announce Funding For The Columbia County Fair
Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) and Assemblyman Marc Molinaro (R,I,C Tivoli) have announced that they have secured funding in the 2007-2008 State Budget for improvements at the Columbia County Fair. Senator Saland is providing $25,500 in State funding to replace an unsafe roadway and Assemblyman Marc Molinaro has secured $3,500 for the Columbia County Agriculture Society to replace the cages used to house animals and birds in the 4-H display at the Fair.
"As one of the oldest county fairs in the country, the Columbia County Fair is not just a celebration of our area's agricultural heritage, it is six days of good old-fashioned fun for everyone, said Senator Saland. " Over the years, I have been pleased to secure funding for the Fair for new grandstands and roofing, as well as a 4-H building project and the removal of the old stables. I am pleased to be able to continue the commitment this year by providing funding to replace an unsafe roadway," Saland continued.
"I am proud to support the Columbia County Fair and the many young people that participate and benefit from 4H programs in Columbia County. It is a pleasure to work with Senator Saland in promoting this great community event and celebration of agriculture," said Assemblyman Molinaro.
"Senator Saland has been there when we've needed him for many years", said Angelo Nero, Columbia County Fair Manager. "He came up with State money for new grandstands when we were up against the wall and had nowhere to turn, and he's come through for us again. We now have Senator Saland and Assemblyman Molinaro working together for us and we are tremendously grateful for their continued assistance," Nero continued.
The Fair is an economic boon for the area. Officials estimate that between 65,000 and 70,000 people will come through the gates during the six days of the Fair. Local businesses have reported their sales rise during the Fair as tourists from all over the Hudson Valley, and beyond, visit Chatham.
Senator Saland and Assemblyman Molinaro will be announcing these grants at the Fairgrounds in Chatham on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 3:45 PM at the Fair offices. All members of the media are invited to attend.
