New York State Geriatric Mental Health Alliance Presents First Geriatric Mental Health Leadership Award To Senator Morahan

The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance of New York--an advocacy organization with 3000 members from throughout New York State--presented its first Geriatric Mental Health Leadership Award to New York State Senator Thomas P. Morahanat a special ceremony on November 1, 2007 at Highland House in Middletown, New York. Senator Morahan chairs the New York State Senate Committee on Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities.

In presenting the award, Michael Friedman, the Alliance's Chairperson said, "Senator Morahan has demonstrated great commitment to addressing the mental health needs of older New Yorkers. He was a prime sponsor of the Geriatric Mental Health Act of New York--a national first. He carried the bill through the Senate, where it passed unanimously. He pressed--and we know will continue to press--for funding for innovative geriatric mental health services. He is a true leader in the field of geriatric mental health."
