Senator Nominates West Nyack Vet To NYS Senate Veterans Hall Of Fame

On Flag Day, June 14, 2007, during the course of session at the New York State Senate, Senator Thomas P. Morahan (R-C-I, New City) will formally nominate 84 year-old Rockland County resident, Joseph Conace, to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.

"Since the dawn of America, New Yorkers have played a pivotal role in preserving freedom and making our nation strong. Indeed, more New Yorkers have served in the Armed Forces of the United States than from any other state. Their courage, dedication and sacrifice have earned more New Yorkers the accolades and honors of their countrymen, including a record 20 percent of all Medals of Honor ever granted, more than any other state. Joe Conace is a New Yorker most worthy of induction into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame," said Senator Morahan, a member of the New York State Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee.

Mr. Conace, a long-time West Nyack resident, served as an infantryman in World War II. He was wounded in action and during the course of his WW II service was awarded a Combat Infantryman's Badge, a Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, and the Conspicuous Service Medal. He was most recently honored by the French government who presented him with the La Legion d'honneur.

After returning to America in 1946, Mr. Conace worked as a Telephone Technician for New York Telephone for 37 years. He is a member of Nyack's American Legion Post 310, and served as the Post Commander. He was recently awarded Life Membership for his 60 yers of continuous membership.

The Senate Veterans Hall of Fame is a tribute to the New Yorkers who served -- and continue to serve -- our nation and state with distinction. The men and women portrayed here are recognized not only for their distinctive military service, but also for the service and commitment they have shown to their community that help make New York a better place.
