Lanza Introduces Bill Granting $100 Rebate Checks To Motor Vehicle Owners

                Senator Andrew Lanza (R – Staten Island) has introduced legislation, Senate bill S.8248,  which would provide a $100 rebate check to New York State residents who have a registered motor vehicle.

                A personal income tax rebate check in the amount of $100 will be mailed to all resident taxpayers that are owners of a motor vehicle and whose income is less than $150,000. Residents are limited to one check per taxpayer, not per motor vehicle.

                "With gasoline prices rising to all time highs, Staten Islanders are really feeling the pain," said Senator Andrew Lanza (R - Staten Island). "At nearly $4 a gallon, people are finding it harder just to get by. A $100 rebate check would provide much needed relief for the families of New York.”

                Lanza has also introduced legislation that has passed in the Senate, which would eliminate the New York State tax on gasoline from Memorial Day to Labor Day. If the State enacts this tax relief plan, New Yorkers would save approximately 33 cents per gallon in state gasoline taxes. Those savings would be increased if the federal government opted to suspend its own taxes on gasoline during the same time period which are 18.4 cents per gallon for regular gasoline and 24.4 cents per gallon for diesel.

               “Record high prices at the pump coupled with higher costs on everyday items like milk, bread and eggs are making it more difficult for middle-class families to make ends meet,” Lanza continued. “The Legislature must take action and do all it can to provide relief from these skyrocketing costs.”

                Senate bill S.8248 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Investigations and Government Operations and currently has no Assembly sponsor.
