Lanza To Residents: Be Cautious When Driving On Amboy Road In Richmond Valley
Water and icing condition seems to be a "decades old problem" says Lanza; calls on the Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection to resolve the issue immediately, before tragedy strikes
Staten Island – State Senator Andrew Lanza (R-24th District) warned residents today to "drive with caution" on Amboy Road, at Richmond Valley Road, because of an ongoing icing and water condition.
The stretch of Amboy Road, from Page Avenue to Richmond Valley Road, has been plagued with problems for years and Senator Lanza is calling on the Department of Transportation and the Department of Environmental Protection to meet and resolve them immediately.
"I have received numerous calls to my office over the past few years from motorists and residents about this particular stretch of Amboy Road. As the weather gets colder, this area, which is often flooded, freezes over and is a tragedy waiting to happen.", Lanza said. "Often times ‘black ice’ covers the roadway and motorists are caught off guard by its potential danger. This must be fixed immediately".
Senator Lanza sent out letters this morning to both agencies asking them to work together to come up with a solution to the constant water problem.
Just this morning, the Police Department closed the stretch of Amboy Road due to a severe icing condition. The intersection of Richmond Valley Road and Amboy Road is feet from the entrance of the Richmond Valley train station. The lack of sidewalks and complex intersection at Richmond Valley Road makes the situation all the more dangerous.
