Thompson Gives Opening Remarks At Daemen College Center For Sustainable Communities And Civic Engagement

“Business to Business: A Green Jobs Workshop” on June 20, 2008

The Daemen College Center for Sustainable Communities & Civic Engagement, in collaboration with The Apollo Alliance; Cornell University ILR School; The Wind Action Group; Erie County Environmental Education Institute; and the Engineering Society of Buffalo, will present “Business to Business: A Green Jobs Workshop,” on Friday, June 20, in Wick Center Alumni Lounge on the Daemen campus, 4380 Main Street, Amherst. The jobs workshop will run from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m., with a networking hour to follow. Admission is $15.00.

 This event will present a “business to business” discussion of how local Western New York companies can become involved in the “green economy”.
 
“The hope is that we can assist local companies in breaking into the supply chain for these types of products and services,” noted Robert E. Knoer, Esq., a member of the Daemen College Center for Sustainable Communities & Civic Engagement Board of Directors, and an environmental attorney and partner in The Knoer Group, PLLC.

 New York State Senator Antoine M. Thompson (D) 60th District, will deliver introductory remarks.

Thompson (parts of Erie and Niagara).  “Local businesses will have a unique opportunity to create and be part of the green jobs movement.  It will be a win-win scenario for businesses, consumers, and the environment alike.”

“Business to Business: A Green Jobs Workshop,” will feature short presentations focusing on hydro electric; wind turbine; solar energy; and bioenergy. The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion, to hear from business owners and other attendees, to identify assistance needed to expand their current businesses and programs. The panel will also provide information from the public sector on how government can provide the assistance.
