Fuschillo And Mcdonough Honor Merrick-north Merrick Little League’s State Champs

    State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman Dave McDonough (19th Assembly District) recently honored the players and coaches from the Merrick-North Merrick Little League 9 and 10 year old softball team for capturing the New York State Championship.

    Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough congratulated the team and presented them with copies of a resolution passed by the New York State Senate in honor of their accomplishments.

    The Merrick-North Merrick team completed the summer tournament season with a perfect record of 11-0, outscoring their opponents by a combined total of 126-25 and beat Half Hollow Hills by a score of 10-0 to win the Long Island championship. After making it to the state championship tournament, the girls defeated teams from Brewster and New City to win the state title.   

    “Teamwork, dedication, and many hours of practice have allowed these players and coaches to bring home the Merrick-North Merrick Little League’s first state softball championship. This is an achievement in which the entire Merrick community can take pride. I am pleased to congratulate them on this tremendous accomplishment,” said Senator Fuschillo.
    
    The team was led by Manager Lou Eiler and coaches Denise Savarese, Don Calagna, and Dave Marcello. Brianna Biancardi, Maria Batas, Rachel Calagna, Lauren Trimarco, Lauren Sustad, Allison Jones, Kathryn Eiler, Meredith Jones, Lauren Savarese, Ally Marcello, and Taylor Catalano were all members of the championship team.
