Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman David G. McDonough (19th Assembly District) recently visited Forest Lake Elementary School in Wantagh to teach 4th and 5th grade students about government and community service.

Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough explained to the children what their roles are as state legislators and how new laws are made. To illustrate the process of how bills become laws, Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough presented an idea to the students, had them debate the merits of it, and then cast their votes as to whether it should be turned into a law.

Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McDonough also talked about some of the ways that students could get involved in community service. Afterwards, the students had the opportunity to share their ideas for new laws and ask questions.

“The students asked some great questions and really got involved in the process of turning an idea into a law,” said Senator Fuschillo. “I hope that the students enjoyed this visit as much as I did.”
