Merrick And North Merrick School Districts Receive State Funding From Senator Fuschillo To “go Green” And Save Taxpayer Dollars

    The Merrick and North Merrick School Districts will each be receiving $250,000 in state funding from State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) for renewable “green energy” technology to help lower their energy costs and save taxpayer dollars.

    “Just as rising energy prices are putting a strain on the family budget, local school districts are being forced to spend more to power their operations, which ultimately costs taxpayers money. Using alternative energy sources like solar power, which is clean and renewable, will help reduce energy costs and save money for taxpayers in the Merrick and North Merrick School Districts,” said Senator Fuschillo.

    The Merrick and North Merrick School Districts will use the state funding secured by Senator Fuschillo to purchase and install solar energy technology. Since solar power is a clean, renewable energy source, it will provide power without the need for oil or gas. It will also help students learn firsthand about the benefits of alternative energy and how it works.

    "On behalf of the Merrick Board of Education and the entire Merrick community, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Senator Fuschillo for his ongoing support of our educational programs. Senator Fuschillo recently provided us with funding to establish green energy/technology for our school district.  We look forward to working with the senator on this project which will benefit the school district and the entire community of Merrick," said Dr. Ranier W. Melluci, Superintendent of the Merrick School District.

    “The North Merrick School District greatly appreciates Senator Fuschillo’s efforts in securing this state funding. Energy costs are making up a larger portion of our budget with every passing day, and using solar technology to reduce our dependency on traditional fuel sources will help save taxpayer dollars. It will also help our students learn firsthand about alternative energy and the new wave of clean, renewable technology,” said David S. Feller, Superintendent of the North Merrick School District.

    Senator Fuschillo also previously secured state funding for solar technology in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
