State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman Tom McKevitt (17th Assembly District) today honored Lou Kruh, who recently retired from the Merrick School District Board of Education after over thirty years of dedicated service. Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McKevitt presented Mr. Kruh with a copy of a legislative resolution in honor of the milestone.

Mr. Kruh was first elected to the Merrick School Board in 1978, and served as Board President three times during his tenure. He was a strong advocate for the children of Merrick, and pushed hard to introduce full day kindergarten as well as a Spanish language program for grades three to six, which is now in place in all three of the district’s schools.

In addition to his service on the Board of Education, Mr. Kruh is also involved in several other community organizations. He is a member and co-founder of the Merrick Historical Society, is a former member of the Merrick Library Board, and serves on the Town of Hempstead Landmarks Preservation Commission. He is also a decorated World War II veteran.

“Lou Kruh has spent the last thirty years as a tireless advocate for the children of the Merrick community. His distinguished career leaves a legacy of devotion to the children of Merrick and the Merrick School District that will be hard to match. It is my pleasure to thank him for his many years of dedicated service,” said Senator Fuschillo.

“I am pleased to thank Lou Kruh for his years of service to the Merrick community as a member of the Board of Education. He worked very hard to ensure that Merrick students received a top quality education and always put their interests first. His efforts have made the Merrick School District a better place,” said Assemblyman McKevitt.
