Senator Fuschillo Announces Record State Aid Increase For Long Island Schools

New York State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. today announced that the 2008-2009 state budget will deliver record increases in state aid for Long Island schools to improve the education of our children and urged Long Island school boards to pass on the savings to local property taxpayers by lowering tax levies.  

Senator Fuschillo said, “Record increases in school aid will enhance the learning environment in Long Island schools and ensure a brighter future for our students.   Now it is up to the school boards to utilize these increased funds to lower the tax levy and provide relief for local homeowners.”

All told, Long Island schools will receive nearly $2.6 billion in state funding for the next school year, which is $235.8 million more than schools received in last year’s budget, and $121 million more than had been proposed by the former Governor in his Executive Budget.
