State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently visited Northwest Elementary School in Amityville to congratulate second grade students for their award winning entry in the I*ma*GREEN* nation contest, an annual, statewide environmental awareness contest organized by the New York State Senate.

The class took third place in the Arts & Crafts category for the 1st-3rd grade division. The students’ award winning project was also recently displayed in the Legislative Office Building, where it was viewed by legislators, staff members, and capitol visitors.

The award winning students were Ty-tianna Billinger, Christopher Caldwell, Andrea Campos, Emeli Castillo Solano, Francesca Ciaramella, Brandon Clarke, Logan Dessaure,
Christy Farrier, Angel Fermin, Jaiden Haber, De’andra Hyman, Donte Palmer, Cherica Quintyne-Best, Messiah Reid, Janessa Reyes, Isaiah Williams, and Abigail Wright. They were assisted by their teachers, Mrs. Jennifer Callahan, Mrs. Heidi Fredericks, and Mrs. Melissa Cascio.

The 17th annual I*ma*GREEN*nation contest encouraged school age children, grades one through eight, to use their imagination to develop ideas to improve recycling and protect our natural resources. This helped educate students about the importance of recycling and waste reduction and taught them about the role they can play in protecting our environment.
