State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently presented the New York State Medal For Merit and the Republic of Korea Korean War Service Medal to Carl Marchetti, a Marine Corps veteran from West Babylon.

“As a member of the United States Marine Corps, Mr. Marchetti went overseas to defend our country during the Korean War. Like all veterans who served our nation in the armed forces, he is deserving of our respect and gratitude. It is my pleasure to congratulate Mr. Marchetti on earning these honors and thank him for his brave and dedicated service,” said Senator Fuschillo.

Mr. Marchetti earned the two medals for his service in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. During his service, he attained the rank of Lance Corporal, and also earned the Korean Service Medal with two stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

The New York State Medal for Merit recognizes military personnel who were awarded a valor, achievement, commendation or meritorious service decoration or whose service directly supported combat operations.

The Republic of Korea Korean War Service Medal is awarded by the South Korean government to U.S. veterans who served in the country of Korea, its territorial waters, or airspace between June 25, 1950 and July 27, 1953.

Senator Fuschillo is continually accepting applications for any of the military medals offered by New York State. Veterans or family members of veterans who would like more information about how to obtain these awards can call Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-882-0630, or visit the “Senate Reports” section of his website, www.senatorfuschillo.com .
