Dean G. Skelos

Rodney was chosen for the team directly from the United States under 18 national camp. In order to go to the camp, you must be selected from the Walt Disney World tournament held during the Christmas holiday. After his selection for the national team, Rodney then traveled directly with the team from Disney World to Mexico. In Mexico, Rodney scored a goal against Mexico's Team Santos

"This is such a great honor for our community," said Senator Dean Skelos adding, "Ahkeel is a bright young man who's going to go far. I'm proud of him and his achievement."

During Assemblyman Alfano's remarks on the floor of the Assembly he said, "Ahkeel is Elmont's pride. He strives for excellence everyday and works to better our community. He's a hometown hero who is a symbol of the hard work, commitment and spirit that make up so many young people in Elmont. He's a star that we're all proud of."

Alfano presented Rodney with an Excelsior Award on the floor of the Assembly during the Assembly legislative session in commemoration of his outstanding achievement. The group went to the Governor's "War Room," Evolutionary Staircase and visited the Senate chamber. Rodney got to sit in the Senate President's chair right before session began in the Senate.

Rodney also received personal congratulations at the Capitol from many leaders such as Senator Kemp Hannon, Assemblymembers Harvey Weisenberg, Bob Barra, Keith Wright, George Amedore, Adriano Espaillat, Fred Thiele and Deputy Speaker Aurelia Greene.
