IN THE WAKE OF THE PLAXICO BURRESS SHOOTING INCIDENT TO ANNOUNCE INTRODUCTION OF A BILL THAT REQUIRES DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS TO NOTIFY NYPD WITHIN ONE HOUR OF THEIR DIAGNOSIS OF ANY GUNSHOT WOUND

NYS Senator Eric Adams (D, Brooklyn) will hold a press conference to announce that he will introduce legislation to stipulate that doctors and hospital administrators must notify the NYPD within one hour of their diagnosis of any gunshot wound. NY-Presbyterian hospital officials failed to notify police when NY Giants star receiver Plaxico Burress was treated for a gunshot injury.

Senator Adams states: "The NY State legislature has enacted bills to protect our citizens from the disastrous effects of gun crimes. Under current law, however, no specific time period is mandated for the reporting of gunshot wounds by medical personnel to the NYPD. I will introduce legislation in the next session to require doctors and hospitals to notify the New York City Police Department within 1 hour of the diagnosis of any gunshot wound."
