Nys Senator Eric Adams Will Join The Designer Of A Revolutionary Technological Adaptation That Mounts A Small Camera On A Police Firearm And Will Use The Device To Perform A Simulated Search Of A Vacant Building For An Armed Criminal
New York State Senator Eric Adams (D, Brooklyn) will hold a press conference with a former Bronx prosecutor and with the inventor of “PistolCam,” a high-tech innovation that mounts a small camera on the front of any 9mm weapon or long gun to automatically provide video/audio documentation each time the weapon is drawn from its holster. After the press conference Senator Adams and the inventor will demonstrate how the device operates by performing a simulated search of an empty office for an armed criminal.
Senator Adams states: “The PistolCam is a digital video handgun attachment. This cutting-edge technology automatically provides a video recording with full sound to document securely all events after a handgun is removed from its holster. It captures all activity leading up to and including any discharge of that weapon. Discrepancies in testimony during the recent Sean Bell trial underline the need for an objective chronicle of any episode involving the discharge of a firearm by law enforcement personnel. Police agencies should embrace new technology that can supplement or supplant eyewitness testimony to clarify the sequence of events in a shooting incident. A camera installed on a weapon can provide crucial assistance in this endeavor. “
Senator Adams further states: “Equipping a police handgun with this camera, which also contains a bright illuminator and a laser sighting system, will enhance the ability of officers to apprehend suspects. The camera also contains a USB port to provide immediate downloading and distribution of video/photo documentation, which could be instrumental in the capture of fleeing suspects. The presence of security software, moreover, will maintain evidence chain documentation. Finally, establishing an audio/video record automatically each time the weapon is unholstered will be invaluable during any subsequent litigation or liability proceedings.”
