Gloversville Pta Association To Honor Senator Farley
State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) will be on hand as the Gloversville Central Council Parent Teacher Association hosts its annual Founders' Day dinner at Vincenza's Banquet House, Gloversville, on Tuesday, February 5th.
As part of the night's festivities, Senator Farley will be presented the Community Service Award as a "thank you" for his continued support of the community of Gloversville and the Gloversville Enlarged School District.
"I truly feel honored," Senator Farley said. "As a former teacher, I understand the concerns fo schools and try to be supportive."
Last fall, Senator Farley attended the Gloversville Enlarged School District's Board of Education meeting on November 5th and presented the school with a $350,000 ceremonial check that represented special State aid to help offset costs due to an unexpected number of special education students.
As Chairman of the Senate Subcommittee on Libraries, Senator Farley has also been very supportive of the school's reading program. Students in the Gloversville School District are expected to read at least 25 books a year, on their own time. Last spring, the students who successfully completed the program went to Albany to visit Senator Farley and received special citations for their reading efforts. In 2005, the Senator visited Gloversville Middle School and spoke at a district-wide ceremony honoring elementary students that read a combined 4,500 books throughout the school year.
