Women Of Distinction Display To Be At Ft. Hunter Canal Days On July 12th

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R,C - Schenectady) announced that his exhibit honoring historic New York women whose achievements in arts, science, government, labor, education and social reform have earned them recognition as "Women of Distinction" will be on display at the Fort Hunter Canal Days on Saturday, July 12th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"This exhibit features information on 42 historic New York women, from suffragists to geneticists, and labor organizers to entertainers, whose contributions are still felt today and who stand as an inspiration to the next generation of inventors, explorers and achievers," Senator Farley said.

The display includes biographical information on Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton -- who both have ties to Montgomery and Fulton counties -- Lucille Ball, "Grandma Moses" Robinson, Harriet Tubman and Emma Willard, among others, all with strong links to New York.

"History buffs will enjoy Canal Days," Senator Farley said. "Not only will my 'Women of Distinction' exhibit be on display, my table will also have several State and local history brochures and guides. Furthermore, the festival takes place in and around the Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, which preserves several structures dating back to the beginning of the Erie Canal."

The festival includes antique engines, a military encampment with drill demonstrations and a photo exhibit.
