Seward Unveils Energy Grant For Cherry Valley

New York State Senator James L. Seward (R-C-I/Oneonta) and Assemblyman Marc Butler (R-C-I/Newport) announced today that the Village of Cherry Valley will receive a $45,000 grant to install energy efficiency measures in the village hall and at the village pump station.

"It’s about property tax relief. Saving energy is saving money. It helps the village budget and taxpayers," Seward said. "The funding will provide real results -- genuine long term savings to the village. Whenever we can, we must capture non-taxpayer dollars to advance worthwhile projects."

"I’m pleased to partner with Senator Seward in providing this important funding," said Assemblyman Butler. "What makes this great funding so important in this energy conscious era is the fact that the savings in dollars and in energy will compound for Cherry Valley in the years ahead."

An energy audit of the two buildings performed by the power authority identified several energy-saving measures, including insulation and heating improvements that include new furnaces, window replacements and more efficient lighting. Savings are expected to near $3,500 annually when all improvements are completed.

No tax dollars fund the program. The grant will be provided from Petroleum Overcharge Restitution (POCR) funds, administered in New York State by the New York Power Authority. The funds are made available from proceeds of court settlements relating to oil company violations of federal price controls in the 1970s and 1980s.
