Senator Serrano Rallies For Highbridge Middle School

José M. Serrano

"We have waged this fight for years, and it's time the city listens," said the Senator. "Highbridge is one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in the city, with a large population of school-age children. This community desperately needs its first Middle School."

Currently, Highbridge students must traverse large thoroughfares like the Cross-Bronx Expressway and Grand Concourse, and take at least two bus routes, just to reach their nearest Middle School.

"Highbridge is a community on a hilltop, set apart from the rest of the borough," said the Senator. "Our geographics and our demographics demand a Middle School in this neighborhood. And we will not stop fighting until we get it."

He praised the United Parents of Highbridge for developing an unshakeable grassroots movement, spreading their message across the city. "This community is blessed with the kind of passion and organizing we need to effect real change. It makes it a pleasure and an honor to be the representative for Highbridge in the New York State Senate."
