Serrano Digs In At "it's My Park" Event

Senator Serrano participated in "It's My Park" day, an event sponsored by the City Parks Foundation, the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation, and local organizations throughout the five boroughs.
 
The Senator and his family, life-long residents of the South Bronx, dug soil and planted tulip and daffodil bulbs in Franz Sigel Park. "The wonder of a city park is that every resident feels a sense of ownership, as well as the obligation to maintain and beautify the space," said the Senator. "I've always thought of our public parkland as a reflection of New York's unique sense of community."
 
He praised Bronx Parks Commissioner Hector Aponte and his staff for their continued commitment to preserving green space in the borough. "Commissioner Aponte, in his tireless advocacy for green space, is helping to improve public health, quality of life, and the environment."
 
Senator Serrano is Ranking Member of the Senate's Tourism, Recreation and Sports Development Committee, and also sits on the Environmental Conservation Committee. He has consistently fought, in Albany and in the district, to redress the environmental injustices that continue to plague working class communities of color in New York City.
