Serrano Receives Award At Reece School Gala

Senator Serrano attended the Reece School's 60^th Anniversary Gala at the Museum of the City of New York, where he was presented the "Builder of Reece" award, the school's highest honor. Executive Director, Dr. Thomas Colasuonno, thanked the Senator for providing invaluable support during the school's relocation into a new East Harlem facility.

"It's truly an honor to receive this award," said the Senator. "The Reece School has blazed an incredible trail over these past 60 years, doing so much to promote a positive and constructive education for children with special needs." The Reece School is one of the oldest non-profit special education elementary schools in New York City.

"The education and teacher quality is obviously first-rate, but it's also about the diversity and atmosphere in the school," said the Senator. "What I love so much about visiting Reece is that you see a group of students from all areas of the city and all socio-economic backgrounds. It really is a model community, and we're so fortunate to have it in East Harlem.

The Senator also took the opportunity to present the Reece School with a State Senate Proclamation to celebrate the 60^th Anniversary. The proclamation was among several commendations for the school, which received letters and citations from local elected officials, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, and even the White House.
