Senator Kevin Parker Names As Honorary Fellow Of The Alpha Chapter Of The Pi Eta Kappa Honor Society

Brooklyn, NY – In recognition of the leadership that he provides as a member of the New York State legislature, Senator Parker was formally inducted as an Honorary Fellow of The  Alpha Chapter of the Pi Eta Kappa Honor Society at Medgar Evers College. The annual ceremony which celebrates the academic achievement and membership in the Honor Society of urban male student-scholars at Medgar Evers College was organized in conjunction   with the College’s Male Development and Empowerment Center.

Senator joined the ranks of an already impressive list of honorees and was welcome to the Society along with other distinguished Honorary Fellows which included: Congressmen Charles Rangel; Congressmen Edolphus Towns; Mr. Paul Griffin, Jr., International President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Jeanne Mulgrav, Commissioner of New York City Department of Youth and Community Development;  Hugh Price, Senior Fellow at The Brookings Institution;  Dominic Carter, Senior Anchor, New York 1; and  Wycliffe Gordon, world renown jazz educator and performer.

“Since I was elected to the Senate I have made youth empowerment one of my key issues of focus,” said Senator Parker. “It is indeed an honor to join with  The  Alpha Chapter of the Pi Eta Kappa Honor Society and the officers and members of the Male Development and Empowerment Center at Medgar Evers College to continue promoting this agenda. As an honorary fellow, I am committed to supporting the college with its goal of reversing the trend of male under-enrollment in higher education,” he said. 

According to organizers, the goal of the ceremony is to properly recognize accomplished men, women and students who have been exemplars of success. The Fellows, through their mentorship, advocacy and investment in African American and Latino males,  have all provided opportunities for  students to excel academically, display exemplary character and commit themselves to serious leadership in their respective communities.
