Senator Parker Kicks Off Community Presentation On Emergency Planning

In An Emergency, Would You Know What To Do?

Brooklyn, NY-  State Senator Parker and the American Red Cross of Greater New York sponsored a community preparedness event on Thursday, September 18, 2008 hosted by Pastor Gilford Monrose at the Mt. Zion Church of God (7th Day).  The  joint effort was held to help Brooklyn residents become better prepared when responding to emergencies. 

“Tragedies across the world serve as a serious reminder that emergency preparedness is important for us to learn,” said Senator Parker.  “I am pleased to partner with these important organizations to encourage my constituents to take action to prepare for emergencies and consider the needs of their families in that process.”

The free presentation suggests making an emergency family disaster kit including food, water, medicines and medical records.  The presentation also taught attendees to create a family disaster plan and to learn which shelters in their area are along their evacuation route in the event of an emergency.

Participants received a free interactive CD that can be used to create a customized evacuation plan and other tools that will help any family get prepared.  For more information, visit www.nyredcross.org/readyny
