Senator Parker Provides Services To Help Homeowners Avoid Mortgage Foreclosure

Kevin S. Parker

Brooklyn, NY -- Senator Parker will provide Brooklyn homeowners with some assistance in preventing foreclosures and sub-prime lending.  An initiative called “Operation Protect Your Home” a cooperative undertaking between officials in federal, state, and city government and lending institutions will host a forum to provide counseling on methods of avoiding mortgage foreclosure.

"With this type of cooperation from loan servicers, we can save thousands of our neighbors from being added to the foreclosure lists, said Senator Parker.   Borrowers need to do their part too.  If these lenders are willing to meet more than halfway, it's important that consumers are informed on the policies.”

Representatives from most major financial service institutions, including State of NY Mortgage Agency (SONYMA), NYS Consumer Protection Board,  Neighborhood Housing Services of East Flatbush (NHS), New York state Banking Department, NAACP Brooklyn Branch, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mac, Office of NYC Comptroller William D. Thompson, and Common Law/Changer will feature presentations.  They will examine the specific circumstances of each homeowner who attends and suggest strategies to cope with that particular situation.

Letters have been mailed to homeowners who have been deemed to be at risk, encouraging attendance to this free forum. If a homeowner has any questions about his/her mortgage, attendance at this forum is imperative.  For more information, please contact Sonia A.M. Daly at (917)470-0179.
