77th Street Station To Be Included In Mta's Paint Program

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today is announcing that the Metropolitan Transit Authority New York City Transit is moving forward with its station painting program and has awarded a contract that includes the 77^th Street train station on the R line in Bay Ridge.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "I commend the MTA New York City Transit Authority for their recognition of the fact that the 77^th Street train station is one that should be included in the station painting program. I am sure that those who utilize this station regularly, as the means to get to and from work and school, as well as for the purpose of shopping and entertainment, are grateful that this station has been selected as part of this program. When the enhancements to the quality of this station are complete, all commuters will benefit from the better conditions at this train station."

At the end of 2006, the Metropolitan Transit Authority allocated funds to be expended over a six-year period for a station painting initiative. Based upon a rating system, following station assessments, eligible stations were prioritized for contract work to begin including the 77^th Street station. The initiative provides for a complete repainting of all public spaces in each station, including the mezzanine, platform and stairway areas. Employee facilities, such as offices, locker rooms and restrooms are also to be included for each location. In addition, ceilings over the track will be painted in some stations as conditions warrant.

No start date has been set for the painting to begin at the 77^th Street train station. The contract stipulates that the work must be completed within one year of the contract award.
