Senator Golden Applauds Early Completion Of Roadwork On Verrazano Bridge

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today issued a statement commending the M.T.A. Bridges and Tunnels for their early completion of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge Roadway, which has restored normal operation to all three lanes of the roadway:

"It was very encouraging to learn that all Staten Island-bound Lower Level Lanes on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge have been reopened to motorists ahead of the scheduled July 3rd target date, which in and of itself was 6 months earlier than originally planned. On behalf of all commuters, I thank the M.T.A. Bridges and Tunnels for their diligence and work on this project, for making sure that this project was completed ahead of schedule and not beyond the completion date, because we needed this project to be done just as soon as possible.

By completing these repairs earlier than scheduled, the traffic congestion caused by this project has been relieved for motorists traveling from Brooklyn to Staten Island and New Jersey, easing the back up throughout the streets of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, on the approach to the Verrazano Bridge. This is perfect timing, with the summer upon us, and trips to the beaches of New Jersey and other family vacations planned."

In December, 2007, Senator Golden received countless complaints from area residents related to the traffic congestion caused by the Verrazano Bridge repair project and hosted a town hall meeting to address the concerns. Following the town hall, measures were put in place by City agencies to assist with the traffic congestion in the streets of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights, and to better manage the traffic on the approach to the Verrazano Bridge.
