Senator Golden To Hold 9/11 Memorial Events In Community

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District) is today announcing his plans to host two September 11th Memorials to commemorate the 7th Anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center on Thursday, September 11, 2008.

Senator Golden will host a memorial in Marine Park, by the Field House at Fillmore Avenue, at 6:00 p.m. The Memorial will feature prayers, a moment of silence, song and inspirational speeches. Senator Golden will also host a memorial event at 8:00 p.m. on the 69th Street Pier at Bay Ridge Avenue and Shore Road. The memorial will pay tribute to the victims lost from this community through prayer, song and a candle lighting ceremony. The ceremony will feature a 21-gun salute, a moment of silence and inspirational speeches. The Xaverian bagpipers will perform.

At both events, two bunches of balloons, one bunch of 9 and one bunch of 11, will be released into the air in memory of the lives lost.

Senator Golden stated, "This year, the date September 11, 2008 means that it has been seven years since the horrific, world changing attacks of September 11, 2001. We must come together as a community, as a City and as a Nation to show that our spirit and resolve, has not and never will fade. We must remember the lives lost, the dreams shattered and the families torn apart. We must continue to pray for healing and peace for all family members and friends, and for our Nation, and we can never forget the individuals lost on that morning."

Golden continued, "We are the people who are still here on this earth, entrusted with the responsibility to never let the world forget what happened on the morning of September 11, 2001. So every year we will gather in our part of the world, Brooklyn, New York, with that as our mission."
