Senator Golden Responds To Residents Concerns About Key Food Parking Lot

Brooklyn- Responding to concerns of local residents regarding the unkept conditions of the parking lot at the former Key Food supermarket, State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today is announcing that Walgreen’s has hired a company to clean the lot three times a week. Walgreen’s is set to open next fall at the former Key Food Supermarket at 9408-3rd Avenue.

Senator Marty Golden stated, "My office contacted Walgreen’s almost immediately upon receipt that the parking lot at the former Key Food site was not being maintained. It was not right to the store owners and residents of that area to have to live with an eyesore of weeds and debris until Walgreen’s begins construction. I informed Walgreen’s that this community is proud of our Third Avenue and we needed them to give this lot their attention. I thank them for hiring a company to see that this space is well maintained and does not impact the quality of life of the community."

The company will clean the lot each week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday until the construction starts, at which time, the general contractor will be responsible for maintaining a clean site.

Additionally, Senator Golden and area residents who have formed a committee, have submitted a list of items to the Walgreen Corporate office which the community wishes to see for sale at the store. The list includes items above and beyond the normal products for sale at Walgreen’s with a concentration on food items including meat, dairy and produce. Officials from Walgreen’s will be scheduling a meeting with Senator Golden and the committee in the near future to discuss the items requested and the possibility of including other items as well.
