Senator Marty Golden And Dec To Offer Exciting Opportunity To Area Student
Senator Marty Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today is announcing that he will be offering an area student a great opportunity to learn about and experience the environment of the great State of New York, by inviting nominations to the 2008 New York Department of Environmental Conservation summer camp.
Camp Colby, Camp DeBruce, Camp Rushford, and Camp Pack Forest offer attendees a valuable experience tailored toward environmental and conservation education. Outdoor recreation is also emphasized and fishing, canoe rides, and hikes are only a few of the activities that young people enjoy at these camps. The camps serve young people ages 12 to 17, so District middle and high schools are being asked by the Senator to consider possible candidates for selection.
Each representative has the opportunity to select and sponsor one student from their District to participate in one of these camps. The candidates should be economically disadvantaged students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in the Department’s conservation education program. Students should have a strong desire to experience and further their knowledge about the natural environment in which they live.
Senator Marty Golden stated "The camps offered by the Department of Environmental Conservation give young people a unique chance to experience the outdoors and learn about our environment. In a world where respecting and conserving our environment is so important, education plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the coming generations make the right decisions with respect to that environment. The environmental education camps are a terrific chance to for our youth tobecome informed and take steps toward being responsible residents of the State, Country, and world we live in."
