NYS Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz And Bronx Homeowners To Denounce Construction Practices

Ruben Diaz

NYS Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz will join homeowners from Freeman Street in The Bronx, to denounce the poor construction of so-called affordable homes by Tri-Plus II Construction Corp. These homeowners, as have so many other low income and minority individuals over recent years, have seen their “new” homes deteriorate before the first year of moving in.

“I am concerned that so many people in my community, mostly Black and Hispanic, and of moderate to low income, who strive to attain the American dream of home-ownership, are sold a lie. These homes fall apart usually within the first two years after they have been inhabited. In these cases, they are deteriorating even before the first year”, said State Senator Diaz.

Senator Diaz wrote a letter requesting that NYS Attorney General Andrew Cuomo investigate any wrongdoing on the part of the developer or if they violated any rules or regulations for state or federal grants that may have been used in the development of these properties.

The press conference will be held today, Thursday, May 8th, 2008, at 6:00 p.m., in front of 992 Freeman Street, between Longfellow and Bryant Avenues in The Bronx.
