Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz And Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Jr. Join With Elected Officials And Community Leaders To Condemn Abuse Against Former New York City Police Officer

New York State Senator Rev. Ruben Diaz (D-Bronx) and Assemblyman Ruben Diaz, Jr. (D-Bronx) will hold a press conference with retired New York City Police Officer Harold Gregory on this Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 1:00PM at the at the Claremont Consolidated Rehabilitation Development located at 1100 Teller Avenue (near the corner of East 166th Street) in The Bronx to denounce the New York City Housing Authority’s abuse of and discrimination against the retired police officer.

They will be joined with members of the New York Hispanic Clergy Organization, former New York City Police Captain Senator Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn), Anthony Miranda, the President of National Latino Officers Association of America, 100 Blacks in Law Enforcement Who Care, and Civil Rights Attorney Norman Siegel.

“It is ridiculous that the New York City Housing Authority has the power to abuse and discriminate against a former New York Police Officer and is trying to evict him from his home.  It is even more ridiculous to see that this is being attempted during Black History Month,” stated Senator Rev. Diaz.  “Retired Police Officer Harold Gregory is a victim of reverse discrimination.”

According to Assemblyman Ruben Diaz Jr., “We must insist upon a respectful agreement between the New York City Police Department and the New York City Housing Authority to prevent police officers from being evicted from their homes after retirement.  We cannot and will not watch the City abuse retired members of New York City’s finest after they have put their lives on the line for us.”
