Saland And Miller Announce State Grant For The Town Of Wappinger

Stephen M. Saland

“The Hudson Valley has an extensive trail system which provides walkers and hikers the ability to travel for miles in the tranquility of the outdoors and see the beautiful vistas around every corner in Dutchess County,” said Senator Saland. “It is important that these trails be connected so individuals and families can fully enjoy healthy outdoor activities together. Assemblyman Miller and I are pleased to have secured this funding.”

"I am pleased to join with state Senator Steve Saland in making available funds so that everyone, not just residents in Wappinger and Fishkill, can enjoy the scenic beauty of the Hudson Valley,” said Assemblyman Miller. This trail system is a great way for area residents to see the natural splendor our region has to offer while spending time with loved ones. It is projects like this trail system that will ultimately better our communities and improve our overall quality of life for all families that call the Hudson Valley home.”

“As Supervisor for the Town of Wappinger, I am excited to know that the Dutchess County Rail Trail – a true partnership between the State, County, and after its completion, the Town, will soon be a feature enjoyed by all in the very near future,” said Chris Colsey, Town of Wappinger Supervisor. “The trail, featuring nearly 12 miles of partially paved pedestrian walkway, will serve our residents in every capacity from exercise to nature appreciation to a means of commuting from East Fishkill to the City of Poughkeepsie, with expansion just around the corner. As proven with other multi-municipal trails, tourism will increase which is a plus for all of the area towns.”

“And who do we thank for securing the funding for this first class feature, none other than Senator Steve Saland and Assemblyman Joel Miller. More than 95% of the cost for the trail is gained due to their dedication to improving the lives of Dutchess County residents, including the important safety feature of the bridge that will aid walkers in crossing Route 55. The Dutchess Rail Trail is just one more positive example of the success we in Wappinger have enjoyed under their leadership,” Colsey concluded.
