Senator Steve Saland Invites Nominees For "volunteers Of Valor"

Senator Steve Saland (R,I,C Poughkeepsie) today invited local organizations and residents to nominate friends, coworkers and neighborhood volunteers whose selfless acts of courage and heroism on behalf of the residents of their communities makes them deserving of special recognition by the New York State Senate as a New York "Volunteer of Valor".

The Senate will honor distinguished emergency volunteers from our area and throughout the State at a June 10, 2008 Albany reception, where each honoree’s photograph and biography will become part of a special exhibit proclaiming their exemplary acts.

"There are many selfless men and women who sacrifice their time to help others in times of great need by becoming emergency volunteers within their community. Most, if not all New Yorkers, have at one time or another benefited from their acts of courage or heroism," said Senator Saland. "The Senate’s Volunteers of Valor program provides a special and rare opportunity to honor these men and women for their achievements and to thank them for the outstanding service they provide to our communities."

Emergency volunteer men and women such as firefighters, EMTs, Auxiliary Police and CERTS (Certified Emergency Response Technicians) who live in the 41st Senate District. which includes Columbia County and Dutchess County (except for towns in the eastern portion of Dutchess County) are eligible to be considered as a Volunteer of Valor. Nominations must be submitted by April 25, 2008. The name of the honoree selected as the Volunteer of Valor from the 41st Senate District will be announced in May.

"Many municipalities across New York State still have a great need for even more emergency volunteers. Honoring these individuals on June 10, 2008 will demonstrate the outstanding rewards and benefits of making such a sacrifice in our communities," Saland added.
