Senator Montgomery Welcomes Ikea Family To Red Hook

Velmanette Montgomery

State Senator Velmanette Montgomery (D-Brooklyn) was among those who attended a welcoming reception at the home of Joni Yoswein and Glen Van Bramer for the IKEA family.  This major furnishings retailer is slated to open in the Brooklyn community of Red Hook during the Summer of 2008.

IKEA is now recruiting 500 applicants for the Brooklyn store -- the company’s first store in New York City. To find out more about job opportunities and employee benefits, job-seekers are encouraged to visit www.IKEA-USA.com. They may also call Mike Rosenthal at the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce at 718-875-1000 (ext. 108) or Jerry Dunning at the Brooklyn Business Solutions Center at 718-246-5219 (ext. 2025) for assistance in applying.

Pictured with Senator Montgomery (second from left) at the welcoming reception are (from l-r) Antonio Barrios, Director of Development-RAICES; Suyapa O. Blanco, MSW Deputy Director Congregate Programs-RAICES; Mike Baker, IKEA Manager; and Carl Hum, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President. "After years of planning and development, it is truly a pleasure for us at the Spanish Speaking Elderly Council-RAICES to embrace and welcome IKEA to our home of 30 years (Brooklyn)," said Antonio Barrios of RAICES. "We thank IKEA for their commitment to community enhancement, as seen through their generous support at our Red Hook Senior Center. BIENVENIDOS! Looking forward to a long and prosperous relationship."
